Abstract

MARQUEZ MORFIN, Lourdes  and  MOLINA DEL VILLAR, América. 1918 winter: the consequences of the pandemic of flu en Mexico City. Desacatos [online]. 2010, n.32, pp.121-144. ISSN 2448-5144.

After describing the general historical context of the 1918 influenza epidemic in Mexico, this article focuses on the demographic impact of this disease in Mexico City, between October and December of 1918, when the first pandemic wave occurred in the country. Also, the sanitary policies implemented to face this disease are described. This study is based upon files and press data from that period, which allow a view or preliminary approximation to the study of this pandemic in the capital city of this country, a poorly explored issue by history and demography of the twentieth century.

Keywords : pandemic; virus; demographic impact; sanitary measures; newspapers; Mexico City.
