Abstract

BARROS, Françoise de. The Social Housing Policies as an Example of a Local Councillors "Repertoire of Patronage Action" in France (1950-1970). Desacatos [online]. 2011, n.36, pp.49-64. ISSN 2448-5144.

Based on a fieldwork in four towns in north of France and in the suburbs of the capital (Paris), this article shows how local councillors in France used housing and urban policies as repertoire of patronage action from the 1950s to the 1980s. These kinds of uses are first of all possible because these policies begin to be financed by the State in the 1930s. And since the 1950s, local councillors make their possible for State do only finance these policies. And on the other hand, local councillors tend to control the allocation modalities of the goods produced by these policies (lodging) to the citizens of their towns.

Keywords : housing policies; French politics (1945-1980); patronage; local power; local administration; Paris region.
