Abstract

RUZ BARRIO, Miguel Ángel. Judicial Códices: Definition and Methodology. Desacatos [online]. 2011, n.36, pp.169-184. ISSN 2448-5144.

This paper presents the need to consider as a characteristic set within the Mesoamerican códices to all those who had to do with justice, beyond the classical division by content proposed by John B. Glass (1975a). It also raises what is the methodology that should apply to their study, which seeks to leverage certain elements of this type of documents that are sometimes forgotten. It is based on division into three levels of study: external, internal and contextualization, in addition to a multidisciplinary.

Keywords : criticism of sources; methodology; Mesoamerican códices; indigenous lawsuits; New Spain.
