Abstract

O, María Eugenia de la  and  FLORES AVILA, Alma Leticia. Violence,Youth and Vulnerability at Northeast Mexico Border. Desacatos [online]. 2012, n.38, pp.11-28. ISSN 2448-5144.

The purpose of this article is to analyze the life conditions in the context of violence of young habitants of the North border of Mexico. We examined interviews with young maquiladora workers in Matamoros,Tamaulipas, during 2010. The narratives revealed violent experiences under different conditions in a spiral of violence throughout their lives. In this context, their bodies are the subject of violence but also desire for power and exchange.Today, they are the receptacle that is consumed, control, and violate their bodies. They are resources for their families, goods for the maquila work, object of abduction and manipulation by criminal organizations. In this background, the construction of ethnography shares the despair, uncertainty and fear with the habitants of this city. It's a challenge for the social sciences in contexts of violence and insecurity such as the current moment in Mexico.

Keywords : violence; young people; vulnerability; masculinities; border.
