Abstract

BENAVENTE CHORRES, Hesbert. Liberalism, Communitarianism and Immigration. Desacatos [online]. 2012, n.39, pp.105-122. ISSN 2448-5144.

This paper analyzes the political liberalism of John Rawls and Martha Nussbaum, as well as the comunitarianism of Michael Walzer and Amitai Etzioni, in relation with the immigration topic. One concludes that the political liberalism, by the use of the borders, are not consistent with its postulates of freedom and equality, and the comunitarianism put up any cultural integration, in the defense of the community identity. Both theories do not offer a suitable analysis of the migratory flows phenomenon, as well as of the immigrants’ community and the "extraterritorial" citizenship.

Keywords : immigration; John Rawls; Martha Nussbaum; Michael Walzer; Amitai Etzioni.
