Abstract
VELEZ TORRES, Irene. Displacement and Ethnicity: Failures of Multiculturalism in Colombia. Desacatos [online]. 2013, n.41, pp.155-173. ISSN 2448-5144.
In its Political Constitution of 1991, Colombia recognized to be a multiethnic country, commiting to the protection of cultural diversity through the development of a pluralistic and multicultural legislation. Official statistics have shown that during the first decade of the 21st century the most affected population by internal displacement has been indigenous and afro-descendant communities. Analyzing testimonies of indigenous women coming from the Amazon and inhabiting Bogota, this text articulates displacement and ethnicity to show the failure of multiculturalism in Colombia. The article concludes that the displacement in Colombia defies the multiculturalist project from its conception and practice.
