Abstract

CERVINI ITURRE, Rubén Alberto. Variation in the Equity of Cognitive and Non-Cognitive Outcomes at the Secondary Education in Argentina. REDIE [online]. 2005, vol.7, n.1, pp.01-24. ISSN 1607-4041.

The author examined both the level and variation of non-cognitive and cognitive (Mathematics and Language) student outcomes at the end of secondary education in Argentina. The study examined data of 116,894 students in 2,062 high schools from the Censo Nacional de Finalización del Nivel Secundario 1998 (High School National Census of 1998). Multilevel modeling with three levels (student, school and state) was used to analyze the data. The objectives of this work were: to evaluate the effects of educational inequity factors on cognitive and non-cognitive educational outcomes, the "between-school" variation of such factors effects, and the consistency of institutional effectiveness. It was found that the institutional inequity depends on both the type of outcomes and the factors been considered. There exist some variations in the institutional effectiveness level with respect to different types of student. The author discusses the implications of theses results.

Keywords : School achievement; secondary education; educational inequality; school effectiveness; non-cognitive outcomes.
