Abstract

CANTU TIJERINA, Magda Yolanda  and  MARTINEZ SANCHEZ, Nora Hilda. Problems Faced by Novice Teachers in Private Elementary Schools: A Comparative Study between Spain and Mexico. REDIE [online]. 2006, vol.8, n.2, pp.1-16. ISSN 1607-4041.

With the intention of exploring the problems beginning teachers encounter in two different scenarios: Monterrey, Mexico and Madrid, Spain some surveys were made to novice teachers in private schools. The result of these surveys indicated that in both contexts novice teachers face academic, organizational, social, material, and technological related problems. However, Mexican teachers perceived more problems than their Spaniards counterpart in every category. It was interesting to find that the social category in both cases was ranked much lower than the other three variables. This suggests that the cultural nature in these two countries may be a factor that can be considered to foster beginning teachers' adaptation process.

Keywords : Beginning teachers; primary education; private education; comparative analysis.
