Abstract

VAZQUEZ ALONSO, Ángel; ACEVEDO DIAZ, José Antonio; MANASSERO MAS, María Antonia  and  ACEVEDO ROMERO, Pilar. Students' Attitudes Assessment toward Science, Technology, and Society Through a Multiple Response Model. REDIE [online]. 2006, vol.8, n.2, pp.1-37. ISSN 1607-4041.

This article presents the application of the Opinions on Science, Technology, and Society Questionnaire with a new methodology, which is based on the multiple answer model to achieve more valid and significant attitudes towards science, technology and society (STS) topics of a bachelor's degree students sample. The features of the methodology, and its power to assess the students' STS attitudes in a more precise, qualitative, and quantitative way, are presented. The students' attitudes are poor in general, and those attitudes related to the epistemological issues score the lowest level. The study shows the differences among the single isolated propositions to assess STS attitudes, and its methodological implications for research. Finally, some implications for the education of STS issues in the school are discussed.

Keywords : STS; STS attitudes evaluation; views on STS questionnaire; Multiple Answer Model; students' attitudes towards science and technology.
