Abstract

PRODOCIMO, Elaine; SILVA, Rosiane Gonçalves Coelho; RODRIGUES COSTA, Raquel  and  BOGNOLI MATTOSINHO, Paulo Vitor. School Violence: Reflections on Scenarios of its Occurrence. REDIE [online]. 2014, vol.16, n.2, pp.01-15. ISSN 1607-4041.

This study aims to analyze the scenarios in which violence occurs at school from the point of view of those who have experienced, witnessed or committed it. Additionally, the article aims to understand and reflect on the dynamics of the relationships established in these contexts. A survey was conducted with the participation of 2,793 students from 17 public schools in eight Brazilian states, using a questionnaire developed by a team of researchers from the University of Lisbon. The results point to a higher prevalence of aggression in the classroom, followed by recess. There was also a predominance of individual acts of aggression. Since students spend most of their time at school in the classroom, to some extent it is expected that this would be where conflicts or even acts of violence occur. On the other hand, there is the constant presence of the teacher as well as a small number of students in the classroom, which demonstrates that aggression is carried out in the presence of the adult responsible for the group.

Keywords : School violence; classroom; school.
