Abstract

MOLINER GARCIA, Odet; TRAVER MARTI, Joan Andrés; RUIZ BERNARDO, María Paola  and  SEGARRA ARNAU, Tomás. Strategies Influencing Democratization Processes in Schools: a Theoretical Approach. REDIE [online]. 2016, vol.18, n.2, pp.116-129. ISSN 1607-4041.

In this paper we aim to build a framework to support strategies for the development of democratization processes in schools. As a result of our theoretical review and hands-on experience working with schools, we propose a series of effective strategies to bring about changes in this regard: promoting a culture of collaboration and being part of a shared vision; fighting social and educational exclusion and appreciating human diversity; defining a set of democratic values; enabling community involvement; encouraging participatory action research, empowerment and self-determination; and developing self-learning processes and educational projects shared with the territory. This proposal is not a list of strategies but rather a starting point to produce changes in democratic and inclusive schools, by involving the education community and inviting critical reflection and collaborative inquiry.

Keywords : Community participation; Inclusive education; Democratic school.
