Abstract

MONTES, Diana Amber  and  SUAREZ, Cecilia Inés. Teacher Training in Universities: Key Aspects of Training in Spanish Universities. REDIE [online]. 2016, vol.18, n.3, pp.51-64. ISSN 1607-4041.

This paper offers an analysis of university teacher training with the aim of providing an assessment to improve ongoing initiatives. It contributes to the debate on university teacher training by comparing aspects such as different training topics, the profiles of teachers who take part in such training, and the relationship between these characteristics. An exploratory, descriptive and quantitative methodology supported by content analysis analyzes the training offered by some of the best-placed Spanish universities in the Academic Ranking of World Universities (ARWU). The results show that the main topics addressed are methodologies, assessment and technology, and most hours of training were intended for teachers with more than five years' experience. The conclusions highlight the importance of introducing topics related to inclusion and designing courses for every stage of a teacher's training.

Keywords : Academic teaching personnel; professional training; lifelong learning.
