Abstract

OSES BARGAS, Rosa María; DUARTE BRICENO, Efraín  and  PINTO LORIA, María de Lourdes. Cooperative Games: Effects on Assertive Behavior in Sixth-Graders In Public Schools. REDIE [online]. 2016, vol.18, n.3, pp.176-186. ISSN 1607-4041.

This study assesses the effects of an intervention program involving cooperative and creative games on assertive behavior and cognitive social problem-solving strategies in sixth-grade children in public schools in the greater Mérida area, in Yucatán. The study used a convenience sample made up of 89 students and a quasi-experimental design with an experimental group and a non-equivalent control group. Two tools were used to assess assertive, passive and aggressive behavior. A t-test analysis reveals an increase in assertive behavior and a decrease in passive behavior. With regard to children's sex, a univariate analysis of variance shows an increase in assertiveness in both females and males, although females were more likely to exhibit this kind of behavior. No difference in aggressive behavior was found between the sexes. This confirms reports by other authors on the effectiveness of cooperative game-based intervention programs in childhood.

Keywords : Cooperative games; assertive behavior; children; public school.
