Abstract

BALLINAS AQUINO, María Luisa. Religión, salud y género en la comunidad de El Duraznal. Espiral (Guadalaj.) [online]. 2008, vol.14, n.41, pp.141-167. ISSN 1665-0565.

El Duraznal is a Tsotsil community that belongs to the municipality of San Cristóbal de Las Casas, Chiapas. This community is made up of people who were expelled from their places of origin (Chamula and Zinacantán) for religious reasons. The first settlers arrived in El Duraznal in 1988, attracted by the availability of land and of residual waters for agricultural use. In this context, the changes in perception and practices or behaviors that arose with religious conversion, as well as the influence that religion has had on the construction of meanings concerning the health-illness issue were analyzed from the dimension of gender.

Keywords : conversión religiosa; género; salud; indígenas; metodología cualitativa.
