Abstract

GONZALEZ VALERIO, María Antonia  and  MARTINEZ RUIZ, Rosaura. On cantos cívicos. Espiral (Guadalaj.) [online]. 2010, vol.16, n.47, pp.47-62. ISSN 1665-0565.

The article discusses the work Cantos Cívicos (Civic Chants) presented by Miguel Ventura and NILC at the Museo Universitario Arte Contemporáneo (MuAC) at the UNAM. Due to the controversy this play brought about, this paper analyzes the arguments presented in the debate and proposes a philosophical theoretical framework to examine them critically. The result of this reflection is the incorporation of aesthetic and philosophical categories that allows for us to understand the work beyond the creator and his intentions, which makes it possible to confront the topic of Nazism incorporated in Cantos Cívicos with a critical awareness that does not call for censorship immediately and irreflexively.

Keywords : Censorship; death of the author; National Socialism; Holocaust; Cantos Cívicos.
