Abstract

ESPINOZA, José Carlos. Electoral competitiveness in Mexico 1928-2018. Espiral (Guadalaj.) [online]. 2023, vol.30, n.87, pp.143-171.  Epub Aug 14, 2023. ISSN 1665-0565.  https://doi.org/10.32870/eees.v30i87.7330.

This investigation aims to find the level of electoral competitiveness that has been presented in Mexico in the period 19282018 at the presidential level, through the quantification of the Herfindahl-Hirschman Index (HHI), in order to analyze the levels of competitiveness in each of the elections. It has been found that the levels of competitiveness have increased since the electoral reform of 1977. However, in the last elections in the country, in 2018, the levels have decreased considerably, so it will be important to know the statistical results derived from the next elections in 2024,which could make it possible to renew the certainty or confirm the existence of a problem of electoral competitiveness in the country.

Keywords : electoral competitiveness; electoral reform; Herfindahl-Hirschman Index.
