Abstract

GARCIA PRIETO, Francisco Javier; POZUELOS ESTRADA, Francisco J.  and  ALVAREZ-ALVAREZ, Carmen. Use of textbooks in rural education in Spain. Sinéctica [online]. 2017, n.49. ISSN 2007-7033.

Rural education is defined by its diversity and invisibility. Any attempt to homogenize the rural school is bound to respond on the basis of stereotypes, which in short correspond with the concrete analysis of each situation, always distant from the intended general etiquette. In this article we situate the relevance that rural education is acquiring and we expose the different forms that it adopts, asking for the role of textbooks in these types of schools today, given that it is a resource widely used and characteristic of an urban school model. To answer this question we have designed a quantitative study investigating the use of this resource that we have applied in schools in southern Spain. The results allow us to know the use that is made of textbooks today: degree of use, regular editorials, vision of the same, etc. It is possible to conclude that rural schools use this resource weakening its essence, so we end up with a proposal for improvement that poses a challenge for the current rural school: reduce the use of textbooks and develop more and more work projects.

Keywords : rural education; textbook; curriculum; collaborative learning; work projects.
