The article aimed to make non-academic learning related to the professional development of basic education teachers visible, to determine lines of action for their development in teacher training. The work is derived from a broad project that analyzes training for research among teachers in the northern region of the State of Chihuahua, Mexico. Through a qualitative, exploratory, and descriptive exercise, in the form of a case study, seven in-service teachers undertaking postgraduate studies were interviewed. The theoretical discussion was based on teacher training, lifelong learning, and life skills. Of the study is concluded that there are significant advances in the development of non-academic learning among teachers, especially in interpersonal, cognitive, and emotional skills; however, skills such as negotiation and teamwork require enrichment.
