The findings resulting from an investigation carried out at the Universidad Iberoamericana of Mexico City from January to December 2022 aimed at analyzing the educational experiences of indigenous students, graduates and graduates in order to identify the problems related to the intercultural inclusion of “the indigenous” in a private university characterized by a humanistic approach and an explicit commitment to social justice are presented. The background of intercultural inclusion in higher education institutions is reviewed and this problem is characterized from a critical and decolonial approach. The collaborative and dialogical methodological approach that was implemented through the participation of eleven indigenous students in the elaboration, analysis and interpretation of stories that account for their educational experiences is described. The following are analyzed: expectations related to access to higher education and related personal, family and community tensions; the social and academic barriers that indigenous students face in their entry, permanence and graduation; and relationships with teachers. Proposals are defined to include "the indigenous" in the university and recommendations are made to promote inclusive intercultural university processes.
