Abstract

GONZALEZ OCHOA, César. Plato and the social contract (chord). Tóp. Sem [online]. 2013, n.30, pp.39-71. ISSN 2594-0619.

In search of the basis of the social contract or order, we find a precedent in some of Plato's dialogues, especially in The Republic and in Laws. Why go back again to such widely discussed sources? There is a reason that seems appropriate: Plato's arguments are oriented towards the equalization between the notion of agreement, social in this case, and the musical notion of chord. This work looks for, in those texts, the basis that according to its author, govern the planets movements, the human soul, the city organization; in all three cases, it is the laws of harmony that make order appear out of chaos.

Keywords : Plato; social order; harmony; proportion.
