Abstract

BARCENA REYNOSO, Jorge Antonio. Free for what? On liberating the spirit and cultivating the will in Nietzsche’s philosophy. Sig. Fil [online]. 2018, vol.20, n.39, pp.144-171.  Epub Mar 07, 2022. ISSN 1665-1324.

Throughout his middle period (1878-1882) Nietzsche built the image of the Free Spirit -which is preceded by the problematic figure of the educator as liberator (1874)- developing a critique and revaluation of morality through which he explored the depths of the human condition. The present article is an examination of Nietzsche’s problematization on the liberation of fettered spirits, linked to the tasks of self-overcoming morality and a transvaluation of values. What I ultimately will try to show is that the question Free for what? constitutes -as the mirror image of a broader reflection- an ethical exhortation to the transformation of existence.

Keywords : world moral order; second nature; autognosis; free spirit; gymnastics of the will.
