Abstract

PRIOR OLMOS, Ángel. Historiography, religion, and politics in the debate on totalitarianism. Sig. Fil [online]. 2018, vol.20, n.40, pp.60-87.  Epub Mar 07, 2022. ISSN 1665-1324.

The debate between Arendt and Voegelin is usually limited to the reception of The Origins of Totalitarianism and some allusions to human nature and the emotional aspect of Arendt’s way of proceeding, when it actually is a very significant discussion through which the author outlines important features of his thought, such as the methodological aspect of his work, the matter of the historical period where the origins of the totalitarian phenomenon can be inserted and the difference between doing it as immanentist heresy or totalitarian government, with the separation between religion and politics as different spheres of the existence.

Keywords : Arendt; Voegelin; immanentist heresy; modernity.
