Abstract

SALAZAR IRIBE, Alexis  and  GAMBOA DE BUEN, Alicia. Importancia de las pectinas en la dinámica de la pared celular durante el desarrollo vegetal. Rev. educ. bioquím [online]. 2013, vol.32, n.2, pp.67-75. ISSN 1665-1995.

Recently, the important role of pectins in plant development has been widely studied. Cell wall characteristics, such as stiffness or loosening, depend on dimethyl esterification grade of pectins. In particular, the constant structural changes of one of the components of pectin, the homogalacturonans, by the activity of of pectin methyl esterases and polygalacturonases and their respective inhibitors, promote local changes in mechanical properties of the cell wall that are fundamental for plant development. These processes have been widely described during pollen growth and primordial formation in the apical meristem of Arabidopsis thaliana.

Keywords : Arabidopsis thaliana; cell wall; pectins.
