Abstract

The new accusatorial criminal procedure in Mexico, which starting June 18th, 2016 is valid nationwide, advocates for a deep institutional transformation of the public defense offices. This article focuses on the results of the field work practiced during 2016 with public defenders from thirteen Mexican states, concerning the implementation process of the new professional career service in the public defense offices. The results are organized in the following sections: professional profile; selection and entry process; income and employment benefits; promotion and incentives; training and penalties.
