Abstract

SILVA TRUJILLO, Macarena. Study of reading comprehension in Latin America: The need for a comprehension-oriented perspective. Innov. educ. (Méx. DF) [online]. 2014, vol.14, n.64, pp.47-55. ISSN 1665-2673.

The main objective of this article is to outline the importance of developing reading comprehension skills in Latin America - specifically highlighting the need to work on comprehension skills along decoding skills. A plausible strategy is proposed: to start with an early age teaching of a series of elements at the core of comprehension (vocabulary, grammar, and complex spoken language skills), with an emphasis on narrative abilities.

Keywords : Reading comprehension; spoken language; narrative; reading skills in Latin America.
