Abstract

CASTRO MENDEZ, Nelson; SUAREZ CRETTON, Ximena  and  SOTO ESPINOZA, Víctor. Using virtual forums to develop motivated learning strategies in university students. Innov. educ. (Méx. DF) [online]. 2016, vol.16, n.70, pp.23-41. ISSN 1665-2673.

The objective of the present paper is to explore the virtual forum as a strategy to develop motivated learning strategies in university students and as an evaluation methodology. The sample was comprised of 35 students in the first year of three-year degree health-related programs. A quasi-experimental preand post-test design was used. The intervention consisted in using the multidisciplinary virtual forum to analyze and solve cases over the course of four months.

Motivated learning strategies were measured before and after, by means of the Spanish-language version of Pintrich and collaborators' Motivated Strategies Learning Questionnaire (MSLQ) (1993). The evaluation of the experience was made with a Likert-based scale for evaluating critical thinking, adapted by Fedorov (2006) for virtual forums.

Keywords : Discussion forums; evaluation; learning; motivated learning.
