Abstract

OLIVAS-ARMENDARIZ, I. et al. Preparation and characterization of chitosan/carbon nanotubes composites. Rev. Mex. Ing. Quím [online]. 2009, vol.8, n.2, pp.205-211. ISSN 1665-2738.

In regenerative medicine and tissue engineering, scaffolds with high interconnected porosity are necessary because they can be potentially tailored to mimic the natural extracellular matrix (ECM) in terms of the structure, chemical composition, and mechanical properties. In this work the preparation of Chitosan, a natural biocompatible polymer was used as scaffolds and was prepared by thermal induced phase separation in order to acquired an appropriate characteristics, the influence of several parameters as polymer concentration, quenching temperature and the incorporation of multiwalled carbon nanotubes (MWCNT) was investigated where it was found that the mechanical properties of the scaffolds increase considerably with the addition of small percentage of MWCNT. The Materials characterization was made by Scanning Electronic Microscopy, Thermal Mechanical Analysis, Fourier Transformed Infrared Spectroscopy and hydrolytic degradation rate.

Keywords : composite; chitosan; MWCNT; thermal induced phase separation.
