Abstract

CALEYO, F.; VALOR, A.; VELAZQUEZ, J.C.  and  HALLEN, J.M.. Analysis of the different models for the growth rate of the corrosion defects in the carbon steel pipelines reliability that transmit hydrocarbons. Rev. Mex. Ing. Quím [online]. 2014, vol.13, n.2, pp.493-508. ISSN 1665-2738.

In this research, it was carried out an analysis of the evolution of the underground pipelines structural reliability using five corrosion growth rate distributions. These distributions were based on: a single value recommended by NACE, linear growth model, nonlinear growth model taking into account the soil characteristics and Markov chains. The results obtained were compared among them in order to showthat to take into consideration age, depth and time evolution of corrosion active defectsare critical to estimate the pipeline reliability.

Keywords : carbon steel; corrosion; reliability; pipelines; modelling.
