Abstract

SANTIAGO-ALVARADO, A.  and  VAZQUEZ-MONTIEL, S.. Propiedades físico-químicas de membranas PDMS empleadas en lentes líquidas. Superf. vacío [online]. 2009, vol.22, n.3, pp.61-66. ISSN 1665-3521.

The transparent elastomer Polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) Sylgard 184 is increasingly used in optical applications, as in the manufacture of microlens with variable focal length, in waveguides (optical fibers) or to produce lenses doublets; this is all due to their excellent physic-chemical properties, its low cost, easy operation and no toxicity. This paper describes the manufacturing process and physic-chemical characterization of elastic membranes prepared from PDMS. These membranes are used as surface refractor on Variable Focal Liquid Lens Length (VFLLL), and these are going to work on the visible region of the electromagnetic spectrum. The membranes are subjected to pressure changes due to liquid content between them. Finally, we present the experimental results obtained of the parameters physic-chemical of the membranes and the conclusions; the obtained results shown that the PDMS membranes are feasible to use to this application.

Keywords : Elastic membranes; Characterization of PDMS; Liquid lenses; Physico-chemical properties of PDMS.
