Abstract

GUERRA MANZO, Enrique. Las encrucijadas del catolicismo intransigente-demócrata (1929-1932). Sig. his [online]. 2005, vol.7, n.14, pp.42-73. ISSN 1665-4420.

This paper analyse the confrontation of the ideas and the standard practices between Mexican episcopate and the catholic intransigent-democratic trend in the years of 1929-1932. The central argument is that the archbishop Leopoldo Ruiz y Flores was the principal voice of the dominant trend at the episcopate which opened the doors to authoritarianism and corporatism which were promoted from the revolutionary State. His aim was save the religious field and educative field (the fight for the souls), even if that implies to leave the politic field and the civil field on the hands of the revolutionary bloc. On the other hand, as one could see in the ideas of Miguel Palomar y Vizcarra, the intransigent-democratic catholicism tried to colonize all the fields without giving none to the enemy: the politic, social, moral, civic, and of course, the religious one.

Keywords : episcopado mexicano; catolicismo intransigente-demócrata; primera y segunda cristiada; estado posrevolucionario; modus vivendi.
