Abstract

MORA MURO, Jesús Iván. Between Universality and Region: The Journal Occidente, 1944-1945. Sig. his [online]. 2013, vol.15, n.29, pp.64-101. ISSN 1665-4420.

In this article the journal Occidente, which appeared in Mexico City between 1944-1945, is analyzed giving emphasis to the role it played as representative of a universalist thought yet, paradoxically, regionalist at the same time. We emphasize the participation of authors from Jalisco in the formation of the journal and the theme lines they printed in it. Among the collaborators of Occidente we can find Agustín Yáñez, José Guadalupe Zuno, Emmanuel Palacios, José Clemente Orozco, José Luis Martínez, Mariano Azuela, José Cornejo Franco, along with others. The subjects and worries of the review were centered in the Greek thought; philosophical and literary European culture; regional history and literature -mainly from Jalisco authors-, and in the world main events like World War II.

Keywords : Jalisco; Universalist; Regionalist; El Centro Bohemio; Bandera de Provincias.
