Abstract

TORRES FREYERMUTH, Amanda Úrsula  and  AVILA QUIJAS, Aquiles Omar. Ciudad Real Council and legal adviser José Mariano Valero. Political conflict on the eve of Independence, 1804-1809. Sig. his [online]. 2017, vol.19, n.38, pp.88-137. ISSN 1665-4420.

This article analyzes the conflicts that a bureaucrat from the Bourbon regime had with a part of Ciudad Real’s society. Conflicts in line with the political conjunctures of the first decade of the nineteenth century that allow observing, from the day-to-day dynamics, how the population assimilated and took advantage of the Napoleonic invasion and the King’s absence. It also shows how the royal bureaucracy generated its own preservation mechanisms, on the one hand, and, on the other, the parallel path followed by the administration of justice in the late eighteenth and early nineteenth centuries.

Keywords : real bureaucracy; Bourbon reforms; change of mindsets; vacatio regis; political culture.
