Abstract

MUNIZ SANCHEZ, Jorge. The Belgian seed of industrialization in the North of Spain. Asturias, 1833-1838. Sig. his [online]. 2019, vol.21, n.41, pp.42-67.  Epub Aug 03, 2020. ISSN 1665-4420.

There is an anomaly in the historiography of coal mining in Asturias, in which the part tends to be judged through the lay of the present, glorifying or undervaluing facts, ignoring their context. In this paper, I will analyze a forerunner company -Real Compañía Asturiana de Minas- in the highly underrated previous stage of its golden age. Despite such undervaluation, the impact of this period was much greater than it might seem.

Keywords : coal; XIXth century; Belgium; technology transfer; industry.
