Abstract

LIRA LARIOS, Regina. “Here we are all one”: military organization and divergent leadership in the movement of the United Peoples of Nayarit, 1858 to 1873. Sig. his [online]. 2020, vol.22, n.43, pp.34-71.  Epub June 30, 2020. ISSN 1665-4420.

The paper addresses the movement of the United Peoples of Nayarit beyond Manuel Lozada, including other key military leadership and the networks that tied the Tepic bajío, the valleys surrounding San Luis and the Nayarit Sierra. It approaches the subject of military organization, for it was created as the platform that gave cohesion to the multiplicity of interests and transcended their contradictions, linking them with the national power structure. Based on singular histories and the types of relationships of both collaboration and antagonism that tie together the group, this paper proposes rethinking the diversity of leaderships that give sustenance to the movement in its tripolar configuration. Through this we can reevaluate the inter-ethnic and inter-class nature of this movement and the extraordinary extension in both time and space it occupied between 1858 and 1873.

Keywords : War of Reform; social movement; indigenous people; conservatives; peasants.
