Abstract

VARGAS ARANA, Gilberto. The colonel does have someone to write to him. Analysis of the sources for the study of the chinaco Nicolás Romero. Sig. his [online]. 2020, vol.22, n.44, pp.84-111.  Epub Aug 01, 2022. ISSN 1665-4420.

The paradigmatic image of the Mexican chinaco, revolted against French intervention, is given by Colonel Nicolás Romero (1827-1865). Character revealed by the historical-literary work of authors such as General Vicente Riva Palacio, whom he followed in his battles, and elicited the lines that go from Calvario y Tabor (1868) to La lejanía del tesoro (1992) by Paco Ignacio Taibo II. The one known as León de las Montañas transits in paths of letters that go from novel to poetry, from journalism to corrido, from historical essay to biography, which we review and reflect on in this work.

Keywords : historical novel; French Intervention; Vicente Riva Palacio; hero; press.
