Abstract

MORAN, Daniel  and  YARANGO, Jesús. An empire in crisis. War donations during the administration of Viceroy Abascal according to the Minerva Peruana, 1808-1810. Sig. his [online]. 2022, vol.24, n.47, pp.76-107.  Epub July 25, 2022. ISSN 1665-4420.

Funny or forced donations were two of the mechanisms that the Spanish Crown used to obtain economic resources during times of fiscal hardship or wars, such as the one generated by the imperial crisis in 1808. In this paper we quantify and analyze the funny donations registered in the newspaper Fidelista Minerva Peruana between 1808 and 1810. In addition, we examine the compensation requested by donors, as well as those granted by the Crown in order to understand the interests and loyalty of the colonial society.

Keywords : Peruvian viceroyalty; considerations; fidelity; press; independence.
