Abstract

GARZA CHAVEZ, María Luisa de la. “Si hay Libertad de expresión, no prohíban los corridos”. Hipótesis sobre la construcción de una transgresión equívoca. LiminaR [online]. 2007, vol.5, n.1, pp.145-158. ISSN 2007-8900.  https://doi.org/10.29043/liminar.v5i1.240.

This paper tackles the interplay of true and false censorship that has derived in the reinforcement of the “corrido’s” social representation as a discursively “brave” genre. It offers an interpretation of the resignification that its “transgressive” nature has had in the last years. This interpretation is based on the analysis of the social and political uses that the genre has historically had, as well as on the genre re-appropriation in the show business industry.

Keywords : mexican ballad; authoritarianism; censorship and self-censorship; alternative speeches; marketing strategies.
