Abstract

ANGUIANO, María Eugenia  and  TREJO PENA, Alma. Políticas de seguridad fronteriza y nuevas rutas de movilidad de migrantes mexicanos y guatemaltecos. LiminaR [online]. 2007, vol.5, n.2, pp.47-65. ISSN 2007-8900.  https://doi.org/10.29043/liminar.v5i2.250.

In the last decade of century XX, the policies of border security bimplemented by the governments of the United States and Mexico, they altered the mobility routes that used to use the Mexican and Central American migrantes in their displacements towards those countries. With object to provide empirical evidence and geographically to delineate the transformations that experienced those routes, we analyzed the information that provides two surveys of migratory flows developed by the School of the North Border in collaboration with other institutions: the Survey on migration in the North border of Mexico (EMIF) and the Survey on migration in the Guatemala-Mexico border (EMIF-GUAMEX). The first survey allows us to establish a comparison in the changes of the routes of the Mexican migrantes; second, it makes possible to characterize the itineraries of the Central American migratory displacements of, the particularly Guatemalan. In both cases, we emphasized the extreme conditions of social and human vulnerability that face the emigrants in their displacements, in a context in which the emphasis in the security tookto the United States to promote a trilateral agreement with the bordering countries of the north and the south, Canada and Mexico, denominated Alliance for the Security and Prosperity of North America.

Keywords : Migratory policies; border security; routes of mobility; Mexican and Guatemalan migrant.
