Abstract

BROWN DEL RIVERO, Alfonso  and  TORRES CASTILLO, Pamela. The Commercial Relationship Between the Andean Community and the European Union, and Ecuador's Stand. Latinoamérica [online]. 2012, n.55, pp.75-99. ISSN 2448-6914.

The complexity of the integration process between the Andean Community (CAN) and the European Union (EU) is the main topic discussed in this article, from the position of Ecuador. Andean integration has faced several challenges throughout its history, because of political differences among its members. This has meant that their objectives have been partially fulfilled and that in several crucial issues a common position has not been reached. Colombia and Peru have to negotiate independently with third parties, particularly with the eu. Bolivia and Ecuador for their part have expressed dissatisfaction with their own Andean partners and with the EU on free trade negotiations.

Keywords : Economic integration; Latin America; Andean Community of Nations; European Union; Trade; Development.
