ROVIRA MORGADO, Rossend. Viceregal Indian neighbourhoods as spaces of Franciscan safeguard and legitimation. Latinoamérica [online]. 2016, n.62, pp.135-162. ISSN 2448-6914.
The goal of this paper focuses on an intersectional lecture around collective memory re-elaboration strategies and historical remembrance in the early Colonial urban visitas de doctrina and parishes of Santa Cruz Acatla (Mexico City) and San Cristobal Qolqanpata (Cusco). Using an interdisciplinary methodological approach and analyzing a wide spectrum sources, we check both Indian corporations during the early evangelization, when Franciscans would have been indeed secondary or marginal actors over there. We additionally explore the possible causes reasons that would explain why Seraphic friars became later the main public managers of both Indian neighbourhoods.
