Abstract

SUAREZ TURRIZA, Tatiana. Salomón de la Selva and Pedro Henríquez Ureña: Notes on a Cultural Friendship. Latinoamérica [online]. 2022, n.74, pp.131-160.  Epub May 09, 2022. ISSN 2448-6914.  https://doi.org/10.22201/cialc.24486914e.2022.74.57445.

Abstract:

This article has the objective of reconstructing and commenting on some significant passages of the cultural friendship between Salomón de Selva and Pedro Henríquez Ureña; and deals with particular emphasis on the intellectual trajectory of the Nicaraguan poet. From the review of documents (manuscripts, letters and journalistic articles) rescued from the authors’ personal archives, this work exposes their ideological affinities, among which Pan-Americanism stands out, and their artistic tendencies such as modernism and classical culture Greco-Latin. The analysis of these same documents also clarifies the possible reasons for the scant attention that Mexican critics paid for a long time to the literary work of Salomón de la Selva, as well as to his educational and political work.

Keywords : Henríquez Ureña; Salomón de la Selva; Humanist Culture; Pan-Americanism; Modernism.
