Abstract

ODGERS ORTIZ, Olga. Construcción del espacio y religión en la experiencia de la movilidad: Los Santos Patronos como vínculos espaciales en la migración México/Estados Unidos. Migr. Inter [online]. 2008, vol.4, n.3, pp.05-26. ISSN 2594-0279.

Recent literature analyzing Mexico/U.S. migration has repeatedly pointed out the centrality of religious practices associated with "local" patron saints in communities that have managed to forge transnational ties. From the perspective of spatial analysis, we propose that this new centrality of patron saints arises because these practices make it possible to build ties linking several local spaces and because they create continuity across distinct scalar spaces-intimate space, multilocal space, transnational space.

Keywords : Religion; Catholicism; identity; territory; transnationalism.
