Abstract

VEGA BRIONES, Germán. Mexican Migrants’ Problems with Being Overweight. Migr. Inter [online]. 2016, vol.8, n.4, pp.201-230. ISSN 2594-0279.

The main idea of this article is to show the demographic and economic profile of Mexican international migrants, according to their condition of obesity or being overweight. This article is a descriptive analysis and is based on information of the Emif Norte’s 2010 Health Module. One of the main findings of this article is that most Mexican migrants were diagnosed as being overweight after arriving in the United States; however, Mexicans’ perception about their health in the United States is more positive than it is in Mexico. One of the conclusions is that the return of Mexican migrants who are overweight could impact Mexican society and the Mexican health system.

Keywords : overweight; migrants; work; United States; return to Mexico.
