Abstract

MARTINEZ HERNANDEZ, Aldo Adrián. The institutionalization of party system in América Latina: Conceptual and methodological revision. Revista Col. San Luis [online]. 2018, vol.8, n.15, pp.205-236. ISSN 2007-8846.

The objective of this research is to sort the existing conceptual map of the institutionalization of party systems, to identify the different proposals for definition, dimensions and indicators designed for the measurement of the extent to which this process. The theoretical-methodological approach recognizes that following the pioneering work of Mainwaring and Scully (1995), the literature has focused on the construction and search of theoretical and conceptual tools for the measurement of the institutionalization of party systems. The value of this work lies in that it seeks to point the specific characteristics of each of these conceptual and methodological tools, thus determining its explanatory power for the comparative analysis.

Keywords : institutionalization; political parties; party system; stability; electoral volatility.
