Abstract

ALVAREZ, Irene. Pilgrim and cultural tourism. Productions of the past in Real de Catorce. Revista Col. San Luis [online]. 2019, vol.9, n.18, pp.47-67. ISSN 2007-8846.  https://doi.org/10.21696/rcsl9182019944.

The article posits contrasting notions of heritage mobilized by federal agencies for the protection and promotion of historical centers with conceptions regarding what is valuable generated by local actors in the framework of religious pilgrimage. Comprising heritage as the production of value and not as a quality intrinsic to objects, allows us to analyze religious pilgrimage as a patrimonial practice insofar as it connects residents and visitors of the church with their ancestors. Through an analysis of the results of the ethnographic work, it is concluded that the Catholic pilgrimage to the Church of Real de Catorce, in San Luis Potosí, Mexico, is a way of preserving ties to a territory that has a strong migratory tradition. The research offers a novel analytical approach to the study of religious tourism and cultural tourism through primary sources.

Keywords : cultural tourism; pilgrimage; heritage; territory.
