Abstract

KROTZ, Esteban. Tomás Moro's Proto-Anthropology. A 500 years rediscovery of the first publication of Utopía. Revista Col. San Luis [online]. 2019, vol.9, n.20, pp.51-76.  Epub Mar 14, 2022. ISSN 2007-8846.  https://doi.org/10.21696/rcsl9202019964.

After initial considerations about the current use of the word utopia, this article first characterizes the socio-cultural and biographical-intellectual context of Thomas More, to show how these elements are reflected in his work Utopia, first published half a millennium ago. At once shown that this work is far from a mere fantasy novel, but is an elaborate analysis that identifies the social causes of social ills. The conclusion is that, although Moro did not invent utopia, he did give the name to a current of analytical thought that criticizes the unsatisfactory nature of society and opens up avenues for its transformation.

Keywords : Tomás Moro; utopian thinking; precipitous sociological anthropological analysis; real society and dream society.
