Abstract

PLU-JENVRIN, Raphaële. The years of the “institutionalized revolution” in Mexico. Image policies and visual contents of an institutional construction (1940-1960). Revista Col. San Luis [online]. 2019, vol.9, n.20, pp.367-406.  Epub Mar 14, 2022. ISSN 2007-8846.  https://doi.org/10.21696/rcsl92020191001.

The work aims to show how image policies and civic rituals reflected the institutionalization process of the Institutional Revolutionary Party between 1940 and 1960. For this purpose, official iconographic and textual sources are studied, mainly visual propaganda, documents, reports and press contents. The materials consulted show a specific use of historical symbols called to guarantee national cohesion. These features help to understand the functioning of the institutions and their main vector, the Institutional Revolutionary Party. In short, some contrasts between the national and local levels are used to evaluate the impact of the contents studied.

Keywords : Mexico; Institutional Revolutionary Party; institutionalization; image policies; civic rituals.
