Abstract

GONGORA CERVANTES, Vanessa; RAMIREZ BARBA, Éctor Jaime  and  MARTINEZ TAFOLLA, Plinio Manuel E.. Presence and representation of women in the Congress of the State of Guanajuato. Revista Col. San Luis [online]. 2019, vol.9, n.20, pp.493-529.  Epub Mar 14, 2022. ISSN 2007-8846.  https://doi.org/10.21696/rcsl92020191039.

The paper analyzes the presence and representation of women in the Congress of the State of Guanajuato, Mexico, from 1965 to 2018, through a historical classification that distinguishes four stages. The study takes into account the number of women deputies in the Legislatures, the participation, the position in Commissions and the subject matter of their initiatives. Three temporary stages are determined: 1965-1997 (symbolic representation), 1997-2015 (“small minority” with legislative gender production) and 2015-2018 (“critical mass” consolidated). The value of the paper consists of the historical analysis of women’s participation in the Congress of the State of Guanajuato from the first female legislator until the 2015-2018 Legislature. It is concluded that since 1997, the submission by women legislators of items on the women’s and gender agenda to the Congress of the State of Guanajuato has been notorious.
