Abstract

SANCHEZ MONTIEL, Juan Carlos. The election of Vicente Romero as governor of San Luis Potosí in 1828. Political-electoral practices, representation and local elites. Revista Col. San Luis [online]. 2019, vol.9, n.20, pp.531-558.  Epub Mar 14, 2022. ISSN 2007-8846.  https://doi.org/10.21696/rcsl92020191020.

This research analyses the electoral regime, political practices and culture in relation to the election of Vicente Romero as governor of San Luis Potosi. The study focuses on electoral practices as spaces for negotiation and legitimization of access to political power. It presents the relationship between indirect voting, the participation of city councils and political practices in elections. One of the limitations of the study lies in the partiality of the results analyzed through the election certificates, because the total of them is not available. It is concluded that the system of indirect election based on the vote of the town councils made it easier for the political elites to control access to power in San Luis Potosi.

Keywords : elections; San Luis Potosi; Vicente Romero; indirect vote.
