Abstract

SOLA AYAPE, Carlos. Times of war, times of unity. Mexico and the strengthening of its national identity during World War II. The significance of the patriotic ephemeris. Revista Col. San Luis [online]. 2020, vol.10, n.21, 00001.  Epub Mar 14, 2022. ISSN 2007-8846.  https://doi.org/10.21696/rcsl102120201117.

During the World War II, the strengthening of national identity in Mexico reached one of its levels of greater awareness and development. In the face of the uncertain international scenario, the Mexican government launched, with the help of President Manuel Ávila Camacho, a strategic plan around national unity, the promotion of values such as freedom, justice or democracy and, in a very special, the stimulation of national fervor. Through the significance of the past, the ephemerides of the patriotic revolutionary calendar put themselves at the service not only of the reinforcement of national identity, but also of the legitimation of the institutions of the Mexican Revolution.

Keywords : El Nacional; national identity; Manuel Ávila Camacho; Mexican Revolution; Second World War; national unity.
